The board of directors of MediaWorks have extended their full support to Chief Executive Officer, Mark Weldon following a troubled week in the organisation including the exit of Hilary Barry from TV3 this week.
The board meeting was to determine his carrier in the company following the turbulent times under this leadership. The meeting was organised following a surprise resignation of Barry, who is morning co-host with Paul Henry and co-anchor of TV3's 6pm news. Her resignation comes after a series of journalists, personalities and key staff left the broadcasting company since the appointment of Weldon as the chief executive in August 2014.
MediaWorks chairman Rod McGeoch dismissed speculation about his position in the company. After the meeting, McGeoch said Weldon had the "full support" of the board and added that all the mainstream media companies around the world are undergoing major changes. He pointed out that there is a need for major restructuring with a focus on reducing costs and improving profitability.
He said, "MediaWorks is no different. We have to change and we are changing. We have a clear strategy for this, led by our CEO. There is full support for the CEO executing that strategy."
