Woman dies after bus accident near Rotorua

A woman has died after she was struck by a bus while walking near shops on the eastern shore of Lake Rotorua.

People had called the emergency services at 7.40pm on Saturday following the accident at the intersection of TeNgae Rd and Coulter Rd at Owhata, on the eastern shore the lake.The Police Serious Crash Unit is now conducting an investigation into the accident. Senior Sergeant Karl Konlechner of the Bay of Plenty District Command Centre said that no additional information is available on the incidence.

The authorities closed and diversions were placed through residential streetsaround Pohutukawa Drive and Sunrise Ave. The diversions are in place at SH30 and Pohutukawa Dr, and SH30 and Sunrise Ave.

An attendant at Great Spice Indian Takeaway on TeNgae Rd, SanjitaMainali said that the victim bought a rice and curry from the outlet just before the crash. The attendant realised that it was the same women when she saw her black backpack on the side of the road.Ms Mainali said that the women was around 40 years old and had was planning to stay in Rotorua for the night before travelling again.
