Ford Plans to Renovate Its Corporate Headquarters

Ford Motor is looking for being more than just a traditional car maker. In the recent years it has moved to develop its self-driving cars, set roots in Silicon Valley and has financed ride-sharing start-ups.

All these moves are seen as its effort to be a "mobility company" and not just a car manufacturer. The main aim might be to be like Google and Tesla Motors by shaping the future of how people travel from one place to other.

Ford recently outlined a plan that it has for renovating its corporate headquarters near Detroit without mentioning a budget. The company hopes to create an inviting work place for its staff and something that people in the industry will talk about.

The company plans to refurbish or construct office space, research facilities along with engineering operations in 7.5 million square feet which will mark the first big renovation of its home base in Dearborn almost sixty years.

According to Mark Fields Ford's CEO, the main aim is to develop added open workspaces that will encourage collaboration between the company's different divisions. The concept is nothing new and is vastly used in the tech industry.

Fields said in an interview, "People really like being connected and not being in, let's say, the 1970s and '80s layout where what was more appropriate then was to work in cubicle areas and have your own little personal space We're just looking at how they're living their lives now, staying connected, and we're saying, 'How do we do that?"
