On Saturday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted documents which revealed that thousands of vehicles are being recalled by Honda Motor Co. in the US, due to the risk for deterioration of a fuel pump cover which can potentially pose a massive fire hazard.
According to the documents posted by the NHTSA, the vehicles being recalled by Honda in the US include approximately 886,815 Odyssey minivans from 2005 through 2010 model years. The minivans which are being recalled were manufactured between June 23, 2004, and September 4, 2010.
Elaborating on the reason behind the recall of the mentioned Odyssey minivan models, the NHTSA said in its documents that exposure to high temperatures and acidic chemicals can apparently wear away the cover on the fuel pump strainer. This could result in fuel leaks which can lead to a vehicle fire.
Despite the fact that the potential safety issue with the fuel pump covers has not caused any known incidents of vehicle fires or injuries, the affected Odysseys are being recalled by Honda after the company itself investigated a pattern of incidents that involved cracking fuel pump strainer covers.
With the Odyssey recall announced by Honda in the US being a massive one, the automaker has said that it will take until summer for the company to be able to issue the huge number of replacement fuel covers which are required for fixing the problem of fire hazard.
