Auto industry magazine Green Car Journal named the 2014 Honda Accord as the '2014 Green Car of the Year' during the Thursday proceedings at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Honda Accord won the award after a jury of industry executives and comedian/car enthusiast Jay Leno picked the car from among a list of finalists which - other than Accord - comprised the Audi A6 TDI; the BMW 328d; the Mazda3; and Toyota Corolla.
The '2014 Green Car of the Year' award for the 2014 Honda Accord was accepted on behalf of Honda by Mike Accavitti - an SVP at American Honda. Accepting the award, Accavitti said that the car offers "something for everybody."
Manufactured in Ohio, the Honda Accord is available with a choice of powertrains including a four-cylinder, V-6, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The car, according to Accavitti, is also available in a version which is capable of achieving 50 miles per gallon in city driving. The Accord's suggested retail price ranges from between $22,000 for the four-cylinder, gas-powered model to $40,000 for a plug-in, gas/electric hybrid.
Meanwhile, about the 2014 Honda Accord's appeal among the finalists, Green Car Journal's editor and publisher Ron Cogan said that the car's price and good gas mileage help make a widespread, positive impact on the environment.
