Bigwig automaker Honda has recently revealed that it is issuing a recall of nearly 350,000 Odyssey minivans because of a sensor-related problem. The problem, according to Honda, can cause the affected Odyssey minivans to brake on their own.
The recall affects Odyssey minivans from model years 2007 and 2008. The fix for the sensor issue in the recall-affected Odyssey minivans involves the replacement of the sensors in the vehicles, but Honda currently does not have the requisite number of sensors for replacing the problematic ones.
Revealing that the production of sensors in the affected Odyssey minivans is already underway, Honda said that it may be until spring 2014 that the new sensors can be made available for replacement.
In the mean time, Honda has assured the owners of the 2007-2008 model year Odyssey minivans that their vehicles are safe to drive. The automaker said that though there have been more than 100 complaints, over the years, involving the sensor problem in the affected vehicles, there have been no reports of crashes or injuries because of the sensor problem.
Honda also advised the owners of the affected Odyssey minivans that, till the time the new sensors become available for replacement, they should start their vehicles with the wheels facing straight ahead, so as to ensure the proper calibration of the system.
