2013 ‘Worst Transnational Corporation' nominated for Roger Award

The Smokefree Coalition is pleased that its nomination has effectively placed Imperial Tobacco among the seven finalists for the 2013 Roger Award for the worst transnational corporation operating in New Zealand. Each year this award is given the company which has had the most negative impact in categories such as tax dodging, economic dominance, profiteering, political interference, abuse of workers and social effects upon women and cultural imperialism.

Police have charged a 43-year-old who was drinking with the chump with aim to harm over the occurrence at the Pineacres Restaurant and Bar, in Kaiapoi.
A drinking mate who professedly spiked his mate's brew with manufactured cannabis put the Canterbury man in healing facility for four days.

The Government supports the project which will use a sensor technology to examine the health impacts of air pollution in Christchurch.
With this project, Christchurch will become the world's first city to understand in a planned manner, how air quality affects people with lung problems.
Labour preserve century old strong hold in Christchurch East

Poto Williams preserved Labour's century old strong hold on the seat of Christchurch East yesterday with a comprehensive 61 per cent of the vote, replacing former Labour MP and new city Mayor Lianne Dalziel.
She secured 8119 votes which gave her 4613 more than National's Matthew Doocey, who got 3506 votes.
JK Kids closure to be blamed on internet

On Monday, JK Kids based in Christchurch, in a closing down sale reduced the price of all its stock to half. 125 full and part time staff at 22 stores is employed with the company. Apart from this it also sells online.
The company says it faces increased competition from online retailers overseas.
