NZME in talks with Fairfax for a possible merger

Fairfax New Zealand Limited and New Zealand Media and Entertainment are in talks for a possible merger.
Fairfax New Zealand Limited owns publications like Dominion Post, The Press and Stuff while New Zealand Media and Entertainment or NZME owns the New Zealand Herald and Newstalk ZB. The merger will create a giant media house owning most leading publications in the country.
Tribune Publishing’s Chairman Michael Ferro says ‘We’re not for sale’

Last month Gannett, the publisher of USA Today made a takeover offer for Tribune Publishing offering it $12.25 a share. The deal included $390 million in debt and was an all-cash deal that Tribune rejected.
Chairman of the Gannett Board of Directors, John Jeffry Louis, said that the rejection by Tribune confirms their board "never intended to engage with us."

On Thursday, Digital First Media the parent company of Denver Post said it completed the deal of buying two of California's news papers, Orange County Register and Riverside Press-Enterprise. Those were both owned by Freedom Communications newspapers.
