Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia are teaming up to explore options for locally produced biofuel that can fly their planes in a more environment friendly manner.
They have issued a "request for information" to the market to explore the prospects of locally-producing aviation biofuel.
Environment friendly fuel is a focus in many countries and according to Air New Zealand's chief flight operations and safety officer, Captain David Morgan; this move is a part of the carbon management program initiated by the airline.

Qantas announced it is teaming with ViaSat Ka-band for offering free high-speed connectivity to customers staring from next year.
ViaSat will deliver Qantas passengers with speed and capacity that is enough to stream movies, watch TV shows and log onto news and live sports.
Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce, said, "The sheer size of the Australian landmass creates some significant challenges for in-flight connectivity but the recent launch of NBN's satellite has opened up new opportunities that we plan to take advantage of with ViaSat's help."
U.N. Aviation Agency Prohibits Shipment of Lithium-ion Batteries on Passenger Aircrafts

On Monday, citing concerns of fire hazards that lithium ion batteries pose, the UN's aviation agency prohibited shipments of those on passenger aircrafts.
The thirty six state governing council of International Civil Aviation Organization or ICAO said the prohibition will come into effect from April 1, 2016. The same will be maintained till a safer packaging standard is designed for transporting the batteries.
